Krishna Prema is not eternally present in the swarupa of Jiva

Many devotees refer to the below statement of Chaitanya Charitamrita to prove that prema is present in the swarupa of jiva.
nitya-siddha krishna-prema ‘sadhya’ kabhu naya
sravanadi-suddha-citte karaye udaya (CC Mad 22.107)

There are some slightly misinterpreted translations available . Like the two translations below:

1. “Krishna-prema is a potentiality which eternally exists in the hearts of the living entities. It is not something to be gained from another source. When the heart is purified by hearing and chanting (under the guidance of sad-guru) this love naturally awakens.”
2. “Pure love for Kṛṣṇa is eternally established in the hearts of the living entities. It is not something to be gained from another source. When the heart is purified by hearing and chanting, this love naturally awakens. ”
This concept is not supported by any Vaishnava-acarya and Srila Vishvanath Chakravarty Thakura has dedicated a whole chapter on this topic in Madhurya Kadambini .

Let us check the words of the original verse:

nitya-siddha — eternally perfect; kṛṣṇa-prema — love of Kṛṣṇa; sādhya — to be gained; kabhu — at any time; naya — not; śravaṇa-ādi — by hearing, etc; śuddha — purified; citte — in the heart; karaye udaya — arises/appears but never awakened.

Actual translation:

“Krishna prema is eternal and perfect. It is never to be “attained” (by endeavours).Prema arises in the citta (heart/consciousness) which has been purified by devotional activities (hearing, chanting,..).”

Another way of presenting the actual meaning of the verse:

“Eternally existent Krishna prema can never be attained [by any means]. In the mind purified by hearing and chanting it appears .”
In the original statement there is no sentence like  Eternally established in the heart of jiva , awakened    .

The translation of the word udaya  should not be ‘awakened’, but ‘arises’ or sometimes appears  as prema is not dormant in the heart.

If it were described  as dormant it would have been called supta  or nidrita , but such terminology does not exist in the verse.

However one may be confused by appearance of two words in the quote “never be attained”  and in the next statement  “it appears

To get the answer we have to understand what happens when mind is purified by hearing and chanting ? In other words what happens when we progress by performance of Bhakti(Sadhana) ?

The answer is rati appears within our heart which is the direct cause of appearance of prema . This rati is a manifestation of hladini shakti which is not a property of jiva who belongs to the category of tatastha shakti. This rati appears within the heart of jiva

Let us see what Bhakti Rasamrita sindhu has to say about rati :

BRS 2.5.92: The ancient authorities have given the following statement from mahabharata as an example to show that rati, which is the manifestation of hladini sakti, which is beyond the conceivable- deriding even liberation and giving joy to the Lord himself– should not be created by material logic.

Observation:  Here in this verse rati is the manifestation of hladini sakti which we all agree. If it the manifestation of hladini Shakti or inner potency  then how come it is in the inbuilt feature of jiva which is tathasta by nature which lacks hladini shakti ?

Another statement will clear this confusion of “never be attained” and “it appears“.

BRS, 1.2.2 states:
“Action of the senses, which produces the stage of bhava is called sadhana-bhakti. This attained state of bhava-bhakti is an eternal sthayi-bhava which is not created, but simply manifests within the soul by the spiritual energy of the Lord. “.

Notice the statement “manifests within the soul by the spiritual energy of the Lord”  i.e . rati which is a manifestation of spiritual energy of the Lord(Hladini shakti) .

Here the above statement of BRS has striking resemblance to the above statement of CC. “Krishna prema is eternal and perfect. It is never to be “attained” (created by endeavours). Prema arises in the citta (heart/consciousness) which has been purified by devotional activities (hearing, chanting,..).”

Or in other way we can say Krishna prema cannot be created by material endeavours but it appears within our heart by mercy of Lord by his spiritual energy(Hladini) in form rati which is certainly not present in the swarupa of the jiva.
